As you know I wanted to show you a soup of the week every Sunday. Well, we need to postpone that a little. Last week when I wanted to prepare the soup my blender gave up. I ordered a new one but you have to wait a little.

Hopefully I can show you some more soups in the comming weeks.
Oh and you can find my blog now also on Facebook.

So today only a very smal post to tell you I am back. More things to come :)

Have a great start in the week & new cookbook

Hi all,

first of all I hope you have a great start in the new week. Always have in mind: nearly weekend ;)
I had a nice relaxing weekend and gathered some energy for my working week.
I will be traveling to Munich for work so I am not sure if I can post a lot the next days. But you will hear from me during the weekend - latest.

Today I've got a new cookbook.
It is all about people from foreign countries who are now living in the Netherlands. They show how to cook receipts from their country.

It looks really delicious and I am sure I will try a few things very soon.

Now & Then - How your life changed in the last 10 years?

Hi all,

Ina from the Blog what Ina loves want's to know today what has changed for us in the past 10 years.
I can tell you - a lot! :)

10 years ago with 19 I was just in the middle of my apprenticeship. For that I was moving away from my parents - 500km. Luckily I had my 2 sisters close to me.
With 21 I was able to work and live in England for 6 month. That was amazing. Even though I was home sick from time to time.
I loved it there. I lived in Portsmouth during that time.

After I finished my apprenticeship I started working immediately. My company gave me a 6 month contract. It was a hard time for me then as some of my colleagues had not the best business manners. But luckily I had a few fantastic people around. K & I - happy to have you!

Shortly after that I started to study next to my fulltime job. I was working 9-5 and meeting friends to learn 1-2 times a week. Also Fridays and Saturdays I had lessons to attend and the Sunday I usually needed to use for a wrap up. And that for 3 years. But I made it! I am very proud of that.
Time was not always easy these days. Sometimes I wanted to stay in bed Saturday morning so badly. But after all I am very proud of myself as I finished it at the end.

I've got a better job after I was done and liked it. I could do more of what I always loved - working together with people. I was always into HR but now working as a recruiter. I developed my skills and had finally more time to do thinks I like. Photography and reading for example. I always loved taking pictures. It's my Dad's fault. He got me my first camera when I was 6. By then I had a slightly better camera then the one I've got from him back then. :)

And now, since about 1 1/2 year I am living in the Netherlands. I life in a smal house, together with 2 cats and a dog and I love it here. I think within that time I have changed so much. I've got much more independent as I ever was as I've got all the time I need for myself. I became more relaxed and I am just happy.

Well, moved a lot as you see. Let's see what the next 10 years will bring.
Here some pictures of the last 10 years. I created a collage not about me but pictures I took. I like them because of the place, a situation or people I am with.

Have a nice Sunday,
Susann

Happy Saturday

Hi all,

I had a fantastic Saturday, you too?
First of all my new book arrived. Here I can learn a lot about planting my seeds at the right moment of time.
A good preparation for my garden next year.

I also want to send you some late summer grettings. Here what I have in my livingroom:

I went to the market with my friend and later the day I finnished some more granny squares.
Yes, right I started crocheting.
And I have to say it works fine for me. I tried knitting last winter but did not get along with it very well. Crocheting works much better for me. Thanks here for my friend who showed it to me.

Not bad I think :)

I hope you all had a fantastic Saturday.
Many greetings,
Susann

Lazy Cucumber Boost

Hi all,

Today with a new receipt for a fantastic juice. I live the "Lazy Cucumber Boost" especially in the morning or in the middle of the day when I am a bit sleepy and need to get awake. The juice of the cucumber is so refreshing!

In combination with a green apple it gives you a lot of vitamins such as Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Riboflavin and Vitamin B6. It also has plenty of minerals such as calcium, iron, magnesium, Manganese, Iron, Potassium, Copper and Zinc. Green apples can also stabilize your blood sugar and reduce your blood pressure.

The cucumber delivers a lot of Vitamin A, B1, B6, C & D, Foliate, Calcium, Magnesium, and Potassium and due to the fact that it consists of 95% water it rehydrates your body.

Both are also beneficial in treating gout.

So here is what you need:
  • 2-3 Cucumbers
  • 1-2 green Apples
  • if you like wheatgrass
Put everything together in the juicer and enjoy & get awake :)

Planting flower bulbs in containers

Hi all,

this year I wanted to try something new. I still have plenty of flower bulbs from this spring. I kept them dry on a cool and dark place and now I wanted to use them again.
As from this year on we started our little veggi garden space is something I don't give easily away. But you need flowers of course to bring bees, ladybugs and all the other bugs in your garden. That why I did not want to have no flowers in the garden.

Then I had the idea to plant the bulbs in 2 big containers I still have. And I did.
Unfortunately you and me have to wait until next spring to see if everything works out.

I also cleaned out the garden a little bit. There I found something very funny. I did put some radish seeds in the ground this summer but the snails immediately ate the green when it came out. So I said good bye to the idea of eating fresh radish this year.
Look what I found after cleaning out this piece of the garden:

Surely they are not tasty anymore but for next year I learned to not give up so fast :)

Have a great day,
Susann

Soup of the Week - Sweet Potato Soup with Cauliflower

Hi all,

it is getting colder outside and what is better than a nice bowl of fresh warm soup? As I love to make soups and I have already tried a lot of them I want to share my receipts with you. And therefore I planned a Soup-of-the-week-post every weekend. I hope you like this plan and you can find some ideas for yourself here.

This week I want to start with a sweet potato soup. This receipt isn't in my receipt book for very long but I loved it! The soup is super tasty and the cauliflower gives it a good bite.

Here is what you need:
  • 3 sweet potatoes
  • 1 cauliflower
  • 1-2 onions
  • garlic
  • water
  • cooking cream
  • oil, pepper, salt

Peel the onion, garlic and sweet potato and chop everything.
Put some oil in a pot and bake first the onion and garlic until it is a little golden and add the sweet potato. Bake everything for 1-2 minutes and then cover it with water. I usually use 1- 1,5 liter of water so that everything is just covered.
Let it cook until the potatoes are very soft.
In the meanwhile wash the cauliflower and put everything in an oven dish. Mix it with oil, salt and pepper and put it in to oven (160 - 180°C) for about 20 - 30 min. Make sure you stir it from time to time.
As soon as the potatoes are very soft use a hand blender to mix everything to a nice soup. Add the cooking creme and the cauliflower when ready.

Next Weekend a new suggestion, make sure you step by.
Many greetings,
Susann

Gardening Journal

Hi all!

As you know I started a veggi garden for the first time this year. I had no idea what to get and how to do it, when to plant, what plant next to each other and so on.
So I started a huge research. I bought books, searched for planting calendars and read every article I could found in the internet.
But I had to keep the information I've got somewhere. So I created my gardening journal. I bought a book and did not make it myself but only because I just found the perfect book. See?

I was immediately in love and had to bring it home. Ok, I have a confession to make. I have a thing for note books. I could buy them all. I have one drawer full with them but use them nearly all for all kind of topics.

In my garden journal I write for example important information about plants I have or like to plant. I also keep the seeds package and stick them in it with washi tape because then I already have all information. I also have a small greenhouse for the windowsill (see below). I wrote down what seed I put were :)

For the first year I already gathered a lot of information. I already figured out that some things need to be changed or I found things out my own. I will write a seeding planner as well and show it to you later.

Do you have a gardening journal?

Today was also more a couch day with a lot of grey and a little rain outside. So: Cuddeling-Time!!!

Many greetings,
Susann

Food out of the garden

Hi all,

I already told you that I ate Zucchini the whole summer long. Also my freezer is full of it. But his plants seem never to stop producing even more.
At the moment I have counted 13 more Zucchinis and today I've got some of them in again to prevent them from getting even bigger.

I also harvested some last green beens.

And here is the amount of mint, parsley, basil and salie. I keep them in the freezer as well.

Next year I will go for only one Zucchini plant but more corn. Also I would like to try a little bit of salad and tomatos. The beans I want to let grow up next time and I hope to be able to let at least one pumpkin plant survive next year. But well, I will have to wait anyway, right?

Many greetings,
Susann

Muesli with Chia Seeds

Hey all,

I was wondering: How do you start your day?
If I have to work I don't take the time to eat something at home. I am more of an evening person and I find it so hard to get up at 7:30am.
People would say: "you will get used to it". Well - I don't. Really!
If I could, I would sleep until 11am and then work until midnight. I also can concentrate better in the evening.

But back to the topic.
I usually have a big box of self-made muesli at my desk. I used to buy the normal boxed of Muesli but the figured out how much sugar it consists. I find that very mean. You think you eat something healthy and then it is full with sugar.

But well, since a few weeks I eat my self-made muesli.
It consists only of cornflakes, roasted unsalted nuts, sunflower seeds and chia seeds. I usually mix it with fresh fruits like a banana, berries or apple and plain yoghurt. Today it was milk.

Looks good don't you think?

During the weekends I of course do take some time to eat a proper meal. Maybe I show you some pictures on Sunday.

And for these who don't know what chia seeds are:

They are one of the most natural food. They have a long list of health benefits including a good source of healthy omega-3 fats, calcium and fiber. They increase your energy level, reduce the blood pressure and lowers the blood sugar.
The essential fatty acids contained in Chia seeds help to speed up your metabolism and increase lean muscle mass. Adding the seeds to your diet will help you feel full and provide nutrients while adding very few calories.
It Detoxes the Body. The swelling action of Chia in the body helps to cleanse the colon and absorb toxins. Chia seeds are an excellent source of antioxidants. They even contain more than blueberries.

2 tablespoons of Chia = 7 grams of fiber, 2 grams of protein, 205 milligrams of calcium, 5 grams omega-3
And the best, they don't have any "strange taste". I usually put them in my muesli. I also use them in Milkshakes, Juices or Smoothies.

Oh, and for late I brought a very nice treatment today. lovechock...mhhhh! So good! My favorite taste is pineapple/ incaberry. What is your favorite?

Many greetings,
Susann
